Exceeding the Goal

North Texas Giving Day brings in a record-setting total in 2019.

Dirk and Jessica Nowitzki challenged North Texas to raise the bar once again in 2019, and the community answered the call.

North Texas Giving Day wrapped up on Sept. 19, and this year the Communities Foundation of Texas raised a record-setting total from nearly 170,000 donations. The Nowitzki’s served as this year’s honorary co-chairs.

»To the residents, neighbors and friends of North Texas, you’ve proven the power of generosity and made history on North Texas Giving Day,« the Nowitzki’s said. »Your donations will fund critically important work and will have a lasting impact, improving lives for our neighbors.«

In total, more than $50 million was raised across the 11-day event, with more than 169,000 gifts pouring in from 50 states and 25 countries. Dirk identified $50 million as his goal earlier this summer, and the community stepped up to help raise the highest total in the 11-year history of the event. To date, North Texas Giving Day has raised $290 million for local nonprofits.

»The heart and soul of North Texas truly shined today as one of the most generous and charitable cities in the world,« said Dave Scullin, president and CEO of Communities Foundation of Texas.

This year’s event was extra special for the Nowitzki’s. Dirk recently retired from the NBA, but he and Jessica have agreed to establish their post-NBA lives in Dallas. Now that this is their community, they are deeply committed to doing whatever they can to improve the lives of those all across North Texas.

»Thank you for partnering with Communities Foundation of Texas to make North Texas Giving Day 2019 a wonderful success,« the Nowitzki’s said. »You all make us even more proud to all North Texas home.«
